WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Jerod Void ran for a career-high 120 yards and two touchdowns and No. 16 Purdue used a powerful running game to beat No. 10 Iowa 27-14 Saturday.
Purdue (8-2) is 5-1 in Big Ten play for the first time since 1979 and moved into a three-way tie for first with Michigan and Ohio State headed into a showdown next Saturday at the seventh-ranked Buckeyes.
Iowa (7-3, 3-3) had its worst regular season defeat since a 28-point loss to Ohio State on Oct. 21, 2000.
The Hawkeyes entered the game with the nation's fourth-best run defense and hoped they could force Purdue to throw the ball.
Instead, the Boilermakers used a powerful ground game to set up the pass and the results were predictable. Iowa allowed 27 points, tying a season-high.
Purdue piled up more yards rushing in one half (77) than any team had managed against Iowa in the previous seven games.
Void, who had a career-high 34 carries, produced nearly as many rushing touchdowns in one day as the Hawkeyes had allowed all season (three).
Void set the tone on the opening series by breaking a couple tackles on a bruising 20-yard run, then plowed over another Iowa defender for a 9-yard touchdown to make it 7-0.
Purdue then got two field goals from Ben Jones, a 44-yarder to open the quarter and a 42-yarder to close it, to take a 13-0 halftime lead.
Iowa quarterback Nathan Chandler finished 16-of-29 for 203, while Fred Russell managed just 35 yards rushing on 18 carries.
Purdue's Jerome Brooks returned the second-half kickoff 47 yards to midfield. Two plays later, Kyle Orton beat a blitz with an audible and lobbed a perfect pass to Anthony Chambers, who sprinted 45 yards for the score and a 20-0 lead.
Orton was 13-of-20 for 167 yards.
Minnesota 37, Wisconsin 34
MINNEAPOLIS -- Rhys Lloyd kicked a 35-yard field goal as time expired and No. 24 Minnesota overcame a career day by Wisconsin's Jim Sorgi.
Marion Barber III had 139 yards rushing and a touchdown, and Laurence Maroney added 135 yards and a score for the Gophers (9-2, 5-2 Big Ten). Minnesota has won three straight game for its first nine-win season since 1905, when it won 10 games.
Backup quarterback Benji Kamrath went 6-for-10 for 93 yards in place of Asad Abdul-Khaliq, who left the game with an injured shoulder just before halftime.
Sorgi threw for a career-high 305 yards and four touchdowns. Sorgi, with a knee injury, sat out Wisconsin's loss at Northwestern two weeks ago, which knocked the Badgers (6-4, 3-3) out of the Top 25.
The Badgers made it 34-all on Sorgi's 26-yard TD pass to Owen Daniels with 7:15 remaining.
But on the ensuing drive, Kamrath completed a crucial 22-yard pass to Aaron Hosack on third-and-9 from the Minnesota 33. Barber had 11- and a 13-yard runs to the Badgers 21. Maroney added a 3-yard run to the 18 and Minnesota ran the clock to one second to set up Lloyd's winning kick.
Indiana 17, Illinois 14
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Matt LoVecchio scored on an 8-yard run with 24 seconds remaining to snap Indiana's 11-game Big Ten losing streak.
With his team trailing 14-10 and time winding down, LoVecchio took the snap on third-and-goal from the 8. His receivers were covered, so the quarterback tucked the ball away and ran up the middle and dived into the end zone for the winning score.
LoVecchio was 5-of-7 for 46 yards on the winning, 66-yard drive and also rushed for two first downs. LoVecchio finished 17-of-24 for 161 yards and also ran 14 times for 36 yards.
Indiana (2-8, 1-5 Big Ten) got its first league win since a victory over Wisconsin on Oct. 12, 2002.
BenJarvus Green-Ellis ran for 98 yards and the other touchdown for the Hoosiers, a 1-yarder that came on the game's opening drive.
Dustin Ward threw for 163 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for Illinois (1-10, 0-7). Marcus Mason added 102 yards rushing on 23 carries.
