YOUNGSTOWN Engraved bricks will pave way at new East High

Funds raised will support student needs at the school.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The East High All Sports Hall of Fame Committee has finalized details for the sale of engraved brick pavers to be used in a "Hall of Fame Walk" outside the new East High School.
Ground was broken in October for the 208,000-square-foot, $26 million school, to be erected at Bennington Avenue and Parker Street. Plans are for a fall 2005 opening. Organizers said the walkway would likely be placed in a low-traffic area.
Organizers suggest that bricks might be bought in honor or memory of a loved one, for a family or for children; they also might bear inspirational messages or commemorate a special event or accomplishment.
A contribution of $25 reserves a 4-inch-by-8-inch brick. Purchasers can engrave each paver with up to three rows of lettering and up to 14 characters per row. Funds from the sale of the bricks will go to the committee's treasury and be used to assist children at the school. A goal is to eventually establish a scholarship fund for East High graduates.
