Program, workshop will feature music
YOUNGSTOWN -- One program will present classical music for all while a second will offer a free pipe-organ workshop for children.
The Youngstown Musica Sacra will perform music by Venetian composers Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in St. John's Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave., during the Holy Eucharist service.
The composers became famous during the 16th and 17th centuries for their music performed in divided choir at St. Mark's Basilica in Venice. Music by Giovanni's uncle, Andrea Gabrieli, will also be presented.
The Youngstown Music Sacra was founded in 1980 with a grant from the Ohio Arts Council and presents several concerts and liturgies each year at St. John's Church and St. Columba Cathedral.
The Youngstown Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will present "Pedals, Pies and Pizza," a free workshop, from 10 a.m. to noon next Saturday in Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 550 N. Broad St., Canfield.
The workshop is designed to give young music pupils a first look at the pipe organ. It will include a demonstration and explanation of the pipe organ; a 20-minute video presentation; performances, and hands-on experimentation
Music pupils age 6 to 12 are invited. Lunch will be provided. There's no cost. Reservations should be made by Wednesday by calling (724) 946-7024.
