WARREN -- The Rev. Dr. Leon Thompson will be installed as pastor of Friendship Baptist Church, 1954 Brier St. S.E., Warren at 4 p.m. Sunday.
The Rev. Michael Harrison, pastor of Union Baptist Church, and moderator of The Eastern Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia Baptist Association, will deliver the installation sermon.
The Rev. Mr. Thompson had been pastor of Mary B. Wise Memorial Missionary Baptist Church in Cleveland. He served as second vice president of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Cleveland and vicinity, and was a member of the United Pastors in Mission and the Baptist Pastors Council. He is also one of the co-founding pastors and a board member of the Northeast Ohio Association of Baptist Ministers.
He earned a doctorate of philosophy degree in Biblical Studies and Theology from Louisiana Baptist University and Theological Seminary in Shreveport. He also earned a master of arts degree in pastoral ministry and biblical studies and a bachelor's degree in black church studies, both from Ashland University and Theological Seminary in Ashland.
Duet to perform
NORTH LIMA -- Road Less Traveled, a husband and wife duet with Doug and Jude Krehbiel, will present a musical program at 7 p.m. Saturday in North Lima Mennonite Church, 90 Mennonite Drive. They represent Mennonite Mission Network and have toured across the United States and Canada. Call (330) 549-2333.
Satellite seminar set
YOUNGSTOWN -- Christ Church Presbyterian, 1933 Canfield Road, will have a satellite seminar, "Being a Leader, Being a Servant," from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday. The seminar will examine balancing the demands of leadership with the calling to servanthood. Preregistration is requested; call (330) 782-2611.
Facility improvements
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Needle's Eye Christian Counseling Center dedicated a new addition and a completely rebuilt older building at 74 Kenmore Ave. on Oct. 28. The work, a gift of the D.D. Davis International Construction Co., doubled the available space for counseling, tutorial and support activities at that location.
The Needle's Eye promotes children's drug abstinence, provides counseling and support activities for people and families involved in addiction, alcoholism and prostitution. The Needle's Eye was founded in November 1976 by Irma Davis.
Revival services
CAMPBELL -- Revival services are at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, Mount Moriah FBH Church, 84 Bright Ave. The speaker will be the Rev. Joyce Philper from Mount Calvary Pentecostal Church.
Funds distributed
BEACHWOOD, Ohio -- The First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association based in Beachwood, Ohio, recently distributed $1.5 million in donations to various churches and charities, including more than a dozen to the country of Slovakia.
Bernadette Demechko, president of the association's Youngstown District, announced the following local donations: Sts. Cyril and Methodius Slovak Church in Youngstown, Holy Trinity Slovak Church in Struthers, St. Ann Slovak Church in Farrell, Pa., St. Matthias School, Youngstown Sister Cities for the shipment of used medical equipment to Slovakia and its high school student exchange program, $10,000 each; Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown and Sts. Cyril and Methodius Slovak Church in Warren, $15,000 each; American Slovak Cultural Association of Mahoning County, scholarship program, $5,000; St. Vincent de Paul Society Dining Hall, $1,000; and Project WISH volunteer Danny Pappalardo of St. Joseph Parish, Austintown, to work on the project to lay pipe to bring river water to the village of El Progresso, El Salvador, $3,000.
The FCSLA is a nonprofit financial institution serving 80,000 American Slovaks and their families in the United States and Canada.
