NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Jameson Friends of Hospice are sponsoring an angel ornament sale to honor loved ones. Handmade angel ornaments may be bought in memory of a deceased person or to honor a living person. The handmade angel holds a scroll with the name of the honored person and can be used as a tree ornament or stand alone. All donations will be used for the care and service of Jameson Hospice patients. The angels are $10 each. To place an order, call Jameson Friends of Hospice volunteer Rita Dattilo at (724) 652-8460.
SRU plans presentationon Martin Luther, wife
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- A free event on the life of Martin Luther and the influence his wife, Katherine von Bora, had on him will be presented by Dr. Stephen Glinsky Jr., retired Slippery Rock University professor, at 3 p.m. next Sunday on campus in the Bailey Library Special Collections Room. The presentation is part of the library's Outreach program and is co-sponsored by the SRU Women's center.
Glinsky has translated from German two books on Luther, once a Catholic priest who founded the Lutheran church, and his wife, once a Catholic nun. The presentation will include photographs and drawings of Wittenberg, Germany, home of the Luther Museum, as well as other Luther sites.
The truth about squirrels
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Discover the truth about Pennsylvania's seven species of squirrels, including the state's largest squirrel, the groundhog, at the Jennings Environmental Education Center at 2 p.m. today.
Participants will learn to understand and appreciate these crafty creatures. Jennings is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and on weekends as scheduled.
Genealogy workshop
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Lawrence County Historical Society is planning its second annual genealogy workshop. The workshop is scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18 and Dec. 1 in the society's Medure History Building, 408 N. Jefferson St. Beverly Zona will be the instructor.
