OCC supplies needy children all over the globe with a shoe box filled with Christmas toys, school supplies, hygiene items and candy.
Judge: Father should haveno contact with daughter
YOUNGSTOWN -- Bond has been set in municipal court at $10,000 cash or surety for Lorenzo Maxey, 30, of Stansbury Drive, who is charged with child endangering.
The judge ordered Tuesday that Maxey have no contact with his 2-year-old daughter, China McCall, who suffered second-degree burns to her feet and ankles in hot bath water.
On Sunday, the child's mother, Christina McCall, 28, of Hudson Avenue, was arrested on the same charge, but the charge was not filed.
In a statement written for police, McCall said Maxey put the child in the water after the tub had been filled by another child.
Maxey will be back in court Nov. 25 for a pretrial.
Facing multiple charges
YOUNGSTOWN -- Members of the police department's Street Crimes Unit said Theodore Ward took off running when they approached after seeing him urinating next to a car at Belmont Avenue and Wirt Street about 10 p.m. Tuesday. As the 21-year-old Magnolia Avenue man ran, he tossed a bag containing 12 packaged-for-sale bags of suspected crack, police said.
Ward was caught on Belmont and arrested on charges of aggravated trafficking in crack, resisting arrest and public indecency, reports show.
Uniforms reported stolen
YOUNGSTOWN -- Ten complete uniforms and other gear belonging to a former Mahoning County deputy sheriff were taken during a break-in at an unoccupied house in the 2500 block of Taft Avenue, reports show.
Police said the rear door had been broken open last week.
Police arrest teenagerdriving a stolen vehicle
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 14-year-old boy driving a stolen 1984 Oldsmobile was arrested at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday on Sherwood Avenue.
The East Boston Avenue boy told police he took the car from Consumer Auto Mall on Market Street and also took a license plate from another car in the lot.
He was taken to the juvenile justice center to face two counts of receiving stolen property and driving without a license.
Shots fired at house
YOUNGSTOWN -- Six shots were fired at a house in the 3100 block of Pine Hollow Drive about 6:40 p.m. Monday, police said.
The resident said she was in the kitchen when she heard what she thought was fireworks in her driveway and porch area.
No one was injured.
Fire ravages bar
ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. -- An off-duty firefighter heading to his second job was the first to see a blaze at a borough bar.
Firefighters said they were called to The Homestead on Fountain Avenue at 4:30 this morning.
The bar was heavily damaged by flames and water, firefighters said. No estimate of loss was available this morning.
The Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal was expected to investigate.
Firefighters from four nearby townships assisted.
Man shot, killed on porch
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- A man paralyzed from a previous shooting was shot and killed as he sat on his grandmother's porch Tuesday evening, police said.
Edward Howard, 24, of Pittsburgh, died of gunshot wounds to his face and chest.
Police said Howard was sitting in a folding chair when a dark van pulled up and someone fire nine shots at him. He apparently tried to seek cover inside the doorway, police said.
His grandmother and several children were in the house, but were not injured.
According to police, Howard was shot four times at a Pittsburgh car wash in January 2001, leaving him paralyzed.
Six months later, he was shot in the arm while driving in the city with two men who were killed.
