HERMITAGE Giant Eagle receives the OK for shop, gas
A vacant restaurant will be razed to make way for the gas pumps and shop.
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Giant Eagle in the Hermitage Towne Plaza wants a convenience shop and gas pumps in front of its store.
Giant Eagle asked the city Monday for an exception to zoning regulations at the East State Street store for the gas pumps and a 1,800-square-foot convenience shop.
The shop would be where the former Shoney's restaurant is, across the parking lot but directly in front of Giant Eagle, next to State Street.
The restaurant building would be razed to make way for six gas pumps and the shop.
The company presented its case to the Hermitage Zoning Hearing Board, and the board granted the exception for the project, said Nathan Zampogna, city zoning officer.
The project does not include an auto-service garage, Zampogna said.
At other stores
Giant Eagle representatives told the board that the company has gas pumps at a number of its stores.
In another case, the board continued an appeal filed by National Fuel Gas seeking to overturn a building permit for an in-ground swimming pool at a home at 1134 Buhl Circle.
National Fuel says the pool would be too close to a gas line it has near that property.
Zampogna said the case was continued as the gas company and the property owners, Debbie Grumski and John Du, try to negotiate a settlement.
