YOUNGSTOWN -- Bond was set in municipal court at $10,000 cash or surety for Lorenzo Maxey, 30, of Stansbury Drive, who is charged with child endangering. The judge ordered Tuesday that Maxey have no contact with his 2-year-old daughter, China McCall, who suffered second-degree burns to her feet and ankles in hot bath water. On Sunday, the child's mother, Christina McCall, 28, of Hudson Avenue was arrested on the same charge but the charge was not filed. In a statement written for police, McCall said Maxey put the child in the water after the tub had been filled by another child.
Drug, other charges
YOUNGSTOWN -- Members of the Street Crimes Unit said Theodore Ward ran when they approached after seeing him urinating next to a car at Belmont Avenue and Wirt Street about 10 p.m. Tuesday. As the 21-year-old Magnolia Avenue man ran, he tossed a bag containing 12 packaged-for-sale bags of suspected crack, police said. Ward was caught on Belmont and arrested on charges of aggravated trafficking in crack, resisting arrest and public indecency, reports show.
School board seats
YOUNGSTOWN -- Todd Carpenter and Mitch Mascioli won seats on the Jackson-Milton Board of Education on Tuesday. Carpenter had 975 votes and Mascioli, 280. The other candidates, Linda Kolasky and James Maynard, received 203 and 265 votes, respectively.
Break-in at business
YOUNGSTOWN -- Someone broke out an overhead garage door window to get into Mill Creek Window and Door on Andrews Avenue at 2:18 a.m. today, police said. The office was ransacked but no loss reported. Police found a large rock that had been thrown through the window.
Police gear stolen
YOUNGSTOWN -- Ten complete uniforms and other gear belonging to a former Mahoning County deputy sheriff were taken during a break-in at an unoccupied house in the 2500 block of Taft Avenue, reports show. Police said the rear door had been broken open last week. The gear taken includes a duty belt, handcuffs and case, magazine pouch and holster.
Carjacking report
BOARDMAN -- Township police say a carjacking reported here last week never happened. Jeffrey D. Sigurani, 41, of Struthers told police his car was stolen at gunpoint in the parking lot of First Place Bank on Market Street on Oct. 30 while he was using an automated teller machine. Police now say Sigurani does not have an account at that bank. They don't know why he filed the report. Sigurani has been charged with misdemeanor falsification and is due in court Thursday.
Burglary charges
BOARDMAN -- Township police have arrested Donald L. Tucker, 36, of Youngstown on charges of burglary, possession of criminal tools, receiving stolen property and resisting arrest. Police said a Jeanette Drive woman found Tucker inside her home about 3 a.m. today. She dialed 911 and Tucker fled. Police chased Tucker through several yards before catching him. He was in possession of property taken from homes in the area, police said.
Facing charges
CAMPBELL -- A Jackson Street man faces drug and other charges after he fought with police arresting him on Andrews Avenue.
Robert Shaffer, 21, faces felony charges of trafficking in drugs, possession of drugs, assault and obstructing official business. He also faces misdemeanor resisting arrest and drug paraphernalia charges.
Officers responded about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday to the 20-block of Andrews on a call that a man with a gun was selling drugs, police reports show. When they arrived, they confronted Shaffer and a struggle ensued, but Shaffer was eventually handcuffed.
Police said Shaffer had suspected crack cocaine on him.
Officer John Rusnak suffered injuries to his right shoulder and left arm during the arrest and was treated at Beeghly Medical Center.
Juvenile arrested
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 14-year-old boy driving a stolen 1984 Oldsmobile was arrested at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday on Sherwood Avenue. The East Boston Avenue boy told police he took the car from Consumer Auto Mall on Market Street and also took a license plate from another car in the lot.
He was taken to the juvenile justice center to face two counts of receiving stolen property (the car and license plate) and driving without a license.
