Lemieux hurt
PITTSBURGH -- Mario Lemieux injured his hip and left the game after one period Saturday in the Pittsburgh Penguins' 3-2 overtime victory against the Boston Bruins.
He was withheld from the final two periods as a precaution, the team said during the game. After, the Penguins didn't provide an update on Lemieux's condition, and there was no indication if he would be able to play in Toronto on Tuesday.
Lemieux hasn't missed a game since Pittsburgh's final game last season. The Penguins' captain missed 54 games two seasons ago with hip problems that forced arthroscopic surgery in October but plagued him the rest of the season.
Lemieux has one goal and nine points in 10 games. He had points in eight consecutive games entering Saturday.
"Everybody's got to pick up their game even more without Mario, because he's such a significant part of our team," said Rico Fata, who scored two goals Saturday. "When we lost him, we knew we had to fill the void, and the guys did it."
