BOOKS Makeup maven suggests subtle tricks for looking beautiful at every age

NEW YORK (AP) -- Trish McEvoy is out to remind women, "Today is the youngest you will ever be. Enjoy it!"
The makeup maven, whose cosmetics line is sold in several department stores, offers that bittersweet message in her new book, "The Power of Makeup: Looking Your Level Best at Every Age" (Fireside).
McEvoy offers subtle tricks for improving the looks of tired and droopy eyes, sparse eyelashes and eyebrows, skin that has lost its glow and thinner lips.
She also outlines the "level system" to finding your best looks. McEvoy explains how to apply foundation, concealer, powder and other cosmetics to achieve each level's look. Minimalists can use level one's guidelines for a natural look that subtly plays up features. Level two adds more coverage with a little more definition of features, and level three is a glam look for those who express themselves with makeup.
Throughout the book, McEvoy also stresses skin care, a passion she shares with her husband, a dermatologist. The two run New York's Dr. Ronald Sherman/Trish McEvoy Skincare Center. In "The Power of Makeup," McEvoy gives step-by-step instructions on keeping skin healthy and young-looking, as well as a primer on the endless choices of exfoliants, sunscreens and vitamins on the market.
