Work progresses on East Palestine schools

EAST PALESTINE -- Construction crews are making progress on a $7 million project at East Palestine High School and middle school.
Schools Superintendent Jeff Richardson said workers are trying to get the additions under roof before harsh winter weather sets in. The work is to be completed by the start of school in August 2004, he said.
Middle school and high school plans include construction of new science labs, a library and additional classrooms.
Richardson said two of the new high school classrooms will go to a language arts teacher and a Spanish teacher who don't have their own classrooms. The teachers move to different classrooms almost every class period, he added.
He said the work also includes installing sprinkler systems and central air conditioning. Visitors to the high school will see signs of construction everywhere, he said, with ceiling tiles removed and overhead pipes and heating system vents exposed.
At the high school there also will be a new entrance lobby for the gymnasium, which is where the high school trophy cases are. He said the new lobby has become known as the hall of fame addition.
