NHL ROUNDUP Saturday's other games
Flames 3, Blue Jackets 0
CALGARY, Alberta -- Jordan Leopold scored his first two goals of the season and Jamie McLennan made 15 saves in the Calgary Flames' victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Blue Jackets have lost six straight on the road. Both of Leopold's goals came on similar plays in the first period when Calgary outshot Columbus 14-5. The first was scored at 4:16 on the Flames' first power play. Steven Reinprecht came out of the corner and passed to Leopold, who fired a quick shot over goaltender Marc Denis.
Sharks 6, Panthers 2
SUNRISE, Fla. -- Alyn McCauley scored a career-high three goals, and Jonathan Cheechoo added two to help the San Jose Sharks snap a seven-game winless streak with a victory over the Florida Panthers. Brad Stuart also scored for the Sharks, who hadn't won since beating Minnesota on Oct. 12. Jay Bouwmeester and Nathan Horton scored for Florida, which fell to 1-3-1 at home. It was the first NHL goal for Horton, the third overall pick in this year's draft.
Stars 1, Predators 1
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Rob DiMaio scored the tying goal in the second period and the Dallas Stars played to a draw with the Nashville Predators. Greg Johnson gave Nashville a 1-0 lead in the first period. It was the first time the teams ever tied each other. Dallas got even at 10:09 of the middle period when Pierre Turgeon made a pass from just inside the blue line that reached DiMaio midway in the slot. DiMaio one-timed a shot over goaltender Tomas Vokoun's left shoulder.
Wild 2, Capitals 1
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Andrew Brunette scored for the third straight game and the Minnesota Wild beat the Washington Capitals. Wes Walz also scored for the streaking Wild, who have won four of five games and will soon have Marian Gaborik back in the lineup. Gaborik, the Wild's leading scorer last season, signed a new contract with Minnesota on Friday but he was held out of Saturday's game since he hasn't been with the team all season. The Capitals, playing for the second straight night, were sluggish until the third period when Robert Lang scored a power-play goal to bring Washington within 2-1.
Blackhawks 3, Blues 2
ST. LOUIS -- Jocelyn Thibault made 31 saves, and Steve Sullivan scored the go-ahead goal in a three-goal second period of the Chicago Blackhawks' victory over the St. Louis Blues. Travis Moen had his first career goal, and Nathan Dempsey also scored in the second for the Blackhawks, who totaled three goals in the previous three games. Chicago is 4-1-2 in its last seven games. Eric Nickalus scored his first goal, and Dallas Drake added a short-handed tally for the Blues, whose three-game winning streak ended.
Lightning 4, Hurricanes 3
TAMPA, Fla. -- Cory Stillman scored the tiebreaking goal from center ice with 8:09 left to lift the Lightning to a victory over the Carolina Hurricanes and keep Tampa Bay as the NHL's only undefeated team. Stillman was along the right wing boards when his long shot beat goalie Kevin Weekes, who moved in the wrong direction when it appeared he thought the Lightning left wing was going to send the puck behind the net. Vincent Lecavalier scored two goals for the Lightning.
Senators 1, Sabres 1
OTTAWA -- Daniel Alfredsson scored a power-play goal midway through the second period to rally the Ottawa Senators to a tie with the Buffalo Sabres. James Patrick scored four minutes into the second period for Buffalo. Alfredsson got his team-leading sixth goal of the season approximately eight minutes later to forge the tie. Patrick Lalime stopped 36 shots for the Senators, while Buffalo's Martin Biron finished with 34 saves as the teams played to a tie for the first time since December 1999.
Rangers 5, Canadiens 1
MONTREAL -- Dominic Moore had three assists in his NHL debut and Jamie Lundmark and Martin Rucinsky each had a goal and an assist to lead the New York Rangers to a win over the Montreal Canadiens. Moore, recalled from Hartford of the AHL on Friday, earned his first NHL point when he assisted on Lundmark's goal 18:05 into the second which put New York up 2-1.
Flyers 7, Maple Leafs 1
TORONTO -- Michal Handzus, Kim Johnsson and Justin Williams scored in the first eight minutes of the first period, leading the Philadelphia Flyers' rout of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The loss was especially embarrassing to the Maple Leafs, who were eliminated by the Flyers in the first round of last season's playoffs. Philadelphia beat Toronto 6-1 in Game 7 of that series. The Maple Leafs, losers of three straight, were booed heartily throughout. Fans jeered goalie Ed Belfour after he stopped a puck shortly after allowing the fifth Philadelphia goal.
Devils 4, Avalanche 3
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Jeff Friesen scored with 5:27 remaining, leading New Jersey over Colorado. Scott Niedermayer, Scott Gomez and Colin White also scored for the Devils, which won its second straight home game after opening the season 0-3-1 in New Jersey. Martin Brodeur made 20 saves. Joe Sakic, Alex Tanguay and Milan Hedjuk had the Colorado goals. The Avalanche got Teemu Selanne back in the lineup, but were without Peter Forsberg, who was out because of a groin injury.
Islanders 4, Mighty Ducks 1
UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Alexei Yashin scored the Islanders' third goal on just their eighth shot to chase Anaheim goalie Martin Gerber. Jason Blake and Oleg Kvasha had New York's goals in the first period, when the team had only five shots, and Yashin made it 3-0 at 4:50 of the second against Gerber. Gerber, the backup to Jean-Sebastien Giguere, started for the fourth straight game and his goals-against average jumped from an NHL-leading 1.38 to 1.82. Giguere relieved after Yashin's goal and saw his first action since Oct. 24.
