Miss Deaf Ohio from Boardman to host Ohio DEAFair 2003
Miss Deaf Ohio, Jennifer Yazbek of Boardman, is mistress of ceremonies for the Ohio Association of the Deaf's third biennial statewide Ohio DEAFair 2003.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Ohio Expo Center, Lausche Building, 717 E. 17th Ave., Columbus.
Yazbek, a student at Youngstown State University, will also give her crown-winning talent and platform presentation during the event.
The purpose of Ohio DEAFair 2003 is to increase awareness and to educate the deaf and hard of hearing, deaf/blind and hearing consumers, deaf children of hearing parents, senior citizens, service providers, and others. Topics include: deaf culture, use of interpreters, availability of community services and resources, and available technologies.
There will be about 68 exhibitors representing service providers for the deaf community; entertainment; and a children's corner, where young people can learn about the culture in which they live. Sponsoring the event are the Ohio Association of the Deaf, Sprint, Bank One and Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission.
Admission costs until Nov. 7 are $6 for seniors, $8 for ages 16 and over, and $4 for ages 3 to 15. Admission costs at the door are $8 for seniors; $10 for 16 and over; and $6 for ages 3 to 15. For more information, fax Marsha Nippert at (614) 459-5041.
