CHAMPION -- For the first time in years, students at Kent State University's Trumbull Campus can play organized basketball.
The club's first game is Tuesday against KSU Tuscarawas. Home games will be played at the Trumbull County Community Action Program center on Palmyra Road.
Thirteen players comprise the Warriors club and the university bought the home and away uniforms and shoes, said Abdu Awolowo, a member of Independent Black/Minority Coalition at the school.
He said students hope to establish girls basketball and tennis clubs.
Awolowo said the group also wants to start a program similar to the midnight basketball programs in other cities, offering young people an opportunity to play basketball instead of getting into trouble.
Other teams on the Warriors basketball schedule include Ashland University in Ashland, Walsh University in North Canton, Kent Salem and Ohio State University's Marion campus.
