Raptors 82, Wizards 79
TORONTO -- Vince Carter scored 18 of his 26 points in the second half as Toronto recovered from its lowest scoring first half in franchise history. Jerome Williams added 17 points and 13 rebounds, and Antonio Davis had 15 rebounds as the Raptors improved to 2-0 under new coach Kevin O'Neill. The Raptors scored a record-low 27 points in the first half, but Carter had 12 points in the third quarter and made all six of his free throw attempts in the final five minutes. Kwame Brown had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Wizards, who were outrebounded 49-37.
Pistons 93, Heat 81
MIAMI -- Chauncey Billups scored 27 points and Detroit won for the first time under new coach Larry Brown. Miami fell to 0-3, losing its home opener under new coach Stan Van Gundy. Billups went 6-for-13 and hit three 3-pointers. Richard Hamilton added 24 points, including Detroit's final 10 after the Heat closed to 83-76. Ben Wallace had 15 rebounds and four blocks for the Pistons. Eddie Jones led Miami with 20 points, and rookie Udonis Haslem had 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Bucks 93, Pacers 79
INDIANAPOLIS -- Rookie T.J. Ford had 11 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in his NBA debut to lead Milwaukee. Ford just missed becoming the second NBA player to record a triple-double in his first game, according to Elias Sports Bureau. In 1960, Oscar Robertson had 21 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Michael Redd added 21 points and Tim Thomas scored 20 for the Bucks, who gave new coach Terry Porter his first win. Al Harrington led the Pacers with 26 points on 11-of-17 shooting.
Nets 84, Timberwolves 61
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Jason Kidd picked up his game after Kenyon Martin went down with an ugly ankle injury. Kidd recorded his 51st career triple double with 21 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists. Richard Jefferson added 26 points. Kevin Garnett had 23 points to lead the Timberwolves, whose previous team low was 66 against Atlanta in 1997.
Celtics 93, Grizzlies 91
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Mike James hit a 16-foot jumper with 1.8 seconds remaining to give Boston the victory. Memphis tied it at 91 when Pau Gasol hit a pair of free throws with 10.4 seconds to go. He was fouled by Paul Pierce, who had 10 of his 23 points in the final period. Vin Baker led Boston with 24 points and eight rebounds. James had 16 points and six assists. Memphis was led by Stromile Swift with 18 points, while Gasol had 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Bulls 100, Hawks 94
CHICAGO -- Eddy Curry scored 22 points, and Tyson Chandler had 13 with a career-high 22 rebounds as Chicago defeated Atlanta. Chandler was fouled after grabbing his final rebound and he made a free throw to give the Bulls a 88-87 lead with 3:25 remaining. Jason Terry tied it at 90 by making a 3-pointer with 1:47 remaining, but Scottie Pippen took over for the Bulls. Pippen drove hard to the basket to give Chicago a 92-90 lead and then took a charge on the opposite end. On the next Bulls' possession, Curry dunked over Theo Ratliff to give the Bulls a 94-90 lead with 1:04 to go. Pippen had 12 points, and Jalen Rose scored 14. Terry scored 24 points and Stephen Jackson had 17 for the Hawks.
