Kent center out
Kent State junior center Nate Gerwig had knee surgery this week and will miss the 2003-04 season.
Despite being hampered by a shoulder injury last season, the 6-foot-9 Gerwig averaged 7.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and set a school record with a .643 field-goal percentage. He started 28 games while Kent State went 22-9 and reached the NIT. Gerwig underwent knee surgery Thursday. The school said he had been bothered by a knee problem, but didn't disclose his injury.
Pens rookies impressive
