HOWLAND -- Forum Health at Home Hospice will conduct a six-week volunteer training class beginning Monday at Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital, 8747 Squires Lane N.E., from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Preregistration is required. The classes are open to anyone with an interest in becoming a hospice volunteer in Mahoning or Trumbull counties. Safety Festival for Kids
CORTLAND -- Forum Health Elm Road Medical Park's immediate care center will be the site of the free second annual Safety Festival for Kids Saturday Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2630 Elm Road.
Children and teenagers may take part in a variety of fun and educational activities and displays.
Among the featured displays will be: Seat belt safety, 9-1-1 information, "Safe City" bike safety course and bike rodeo, fire prevention information, children's fingerprinting and the Forum Health Asthma Fan. Free DNA swab kits will be provided to the first 100 children. There will be firetrucks and police cars from the local area, and free refreshments and gifts. Participating organizations include: Bazetta fire and police departments, Howland Fire Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, American Automobile Association, Ohio Motorists Association, Help Me Grow and the Poison Control Center.
Blood drive

Women with cancer
CANFIELD -- The American Cancer Society will offer its Look Good, Feel Better program for women undergoing cancer treatment from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 10 at 525 N. Broad St. Trained cosmetologists teach a variety of hair and makeup techniques. A free makeup kit valued at about $200 is given to each participant. Reservations are required. Health screenings

Boys need dad more?
A single mom is 42 percent more likely to marry the father of her child if the baby is a boy than if it's a girl, says a report from University of Washington.
Researchers give two possible explanations: Either boys are more appealing to fathers, or moms feel they need dads on hand to raise sons.
