SCOUTING REPORT Saturday's college football games
MOUNT UNION (7-0, 6-0 OAC)vs. MARIETTA (1-6, 0-6)
When: 1:30 p.m.,
Where: Don Drumm Field, Marietta.
Last year: Mount Union 56, Marietta 10.
Scouting report: Mount Union rolled past Capital last Saturday, 35-7, while Marietta was outlasted by Wilmington, 37-31. Mount Union extended three winning streaks: games (49), regular-season games (91) and OAC games (82). The Purple Raiders hold a 32-8-1 lead in the series with Marietta, winning the last 23 games. MUC junior RB Rick Ciccone rushed for a career-high 112 yards in 23 carries against Marietta -- the first RB on the team to surpass 100 yards rushing. QB Zac Bruney had a career-best 80 yards rushing while completing 12 of 21 passes with three TDs. Sophomore DL Justin Stickley scored a TD on a 30-yard pass interception, 1.5 sacks, two tackles for losses and two QB hurries.
WESTMINSTER (4-3)vs. FROSTBURG STATE (3-3)

Where: Harold Burry Stadium. New Wilmington.
Last year: Frostburg State 24, Westminster 17.
Scouting report: Westminster is coming off a 49-20 win over Grove City last Saturday for its third straight victory, while Frostburg State cruised by Maryville, Tenn., 31-7. The Titans hold a 6-1-1 advantage in the series with Frostburg State. Junior RB Scott Froelich rushed for 204 yards in 26 carries for a school-record-tying four TDs of 80, 7, 8 and 5 yards against Grove City, and was named Presidents' Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week and Offensive Titan of the Week. His 80-yard TD came on the first play from scrimmage, and was the longest of his career. Junior QB Joe Getsy (Lowellville) completed 15 of 22 passes for 192 yards and two TDs to senior WR Brian Ekis (Boardman). Ekis had seven pass catches for 97 yards. Junior OLB Jerry Bonenberger also scored a TD on a 25-yard interception return and added four tackles and three pass breakups. Freshman placekicker Jason Montgomery went 7-for-7 in extra-point kicks, while freshman punter Kyle Trimble (Western Reserve) averaged 29.0 yards on three punts. Senior FB Ryan Mitchell (Warren Harding) rushed for 31 yards in eight carries and caught two passes for 24 yards. Senior DE Nick Fritch made seven tackles and recovered a fumble, and was named Defensive Player of the Week. Junior DE Sean Diefenderfer (Austintown Fitch) came up with four tackles on special teams, and was recognized as Special Teams Titan of the Week.
THIEL (2-5) vs. SUNY-Brockport (7-1)

Where: Alumni Stadium, Greenville, Pa.
Last year: SUNY-Brockport 17, Thiel 0.
Scouting report: Thiel walloped Bethany last Saturday, 42-14, while Brockport posted a 26-13 win over McDaniel. Brockport holds a 2-0 lead in the series with Thiel, also winning in 1999. 33-21. Kennard Davis (Farrell), a junior FS, scored three TDs, two on interception returns of 99 and 24 yards and the other on a kickoff return of 89 yards, to lead Thiel past Bethany. His 99- and 89-yard TD returns set school records, and he also set a school record in career interceptions with 17. Thiel scored 35 straight points to overcome a 14-7 deficit. Senior TB Justin Napotnik rushed for a season-high 99 yards in 20 carries, including a 17-yard TD run. Sophomore WR Brandon Chambers had a 49-yard TD reception.
GROVE CITY (3-5) vs. ALFRED (4-4)
When: 1 p.m.
Where: Merrill Field, Alfred, N.Y.
Last year: Grove City 12, Alfred 7.
Scouting report: Grove City lost to Westminster last Saturday, 49-20, while Alfred lost to Hobart, 20-12. Grove City got a good defensive performances from ILBs Mike Choby and Mike Prioletti, who registered 16 and 15 tackles, respectively. QB Sam Mowrey rushed for a career-best 87 yards, including a 39-yard run. He leads the PAC in total offense with 195.5 yards per game on 1,564 yards for nine games, He has 1,281 yards passing and 283 rushing. Mowrey ranks No. 3 in the PAC in passing with 160.1 yards per game. He is 97-for-193 for 1,281 yards and 12 TDs with 10 interceptions.
HIRAM (1-6, 0-3 NCAC)vs. DENISON (2-5, 1-2)
When: 1 p.m.
Where: Deeds Field, Granville.
Last year: Denison 14, Hiram 0.
Scouting report: Hiram broke a 21-game losing streak with a 34-7 romp past Kenyon last Saturday, while Denison was trounced by Allegheny, 37-0. Sophomore RB Tim Anderson rushed for a school-record 224 yards in a career-high 38 carries, and was named NCAC Offensive Player of the Week. It was Anderson's third 200-plus-yards game of his career. Sophomore QB Max Kravitz completed 24 of 24 passes for 225 yards and three TDs with only one interception. It was the second 200-plus-yards passing game of his career. Freshman John Papacostas scored three TDs, two on passes and the other on a 14-yard reverse. He caught five passes in all for 58 yards. Freshman Jameel Mutawakkilk caught five passes for 119 yards and one TD, to give him 30 catches and 500 yards for the season. Junior FB Don Waddington scored his first career TD on a 4-yard run. Freshman LB Stephen Boxler was the defensive leader with 10 total tackles, including five solo stops. Junior Jimmy Conley had four solo tackles, intercepted a pass and returned it 29 yards, and kicked four extra points. The interception was his second this year and fifth of his career. Freshman CB Greg Kibler also had a pass interception.
ALLEGHNEY (4-3, 4-0 NCAC)vs. WITTENBERG (6-1, 3-1)

Where: Robertson Field, Meadville, Pa.
Last year: Wittenberg 49, Allegheny 3.
Scouting report: Both teams swamped their opponents last week, Allegheny over Denison, 37-0, and Wittenberg over Ohio Wesleyan, 63-0. Allegheny holds first place in the NCAC by a half-game ahead of Wittenberg (3-1) and Wabash (3-1). Senior quarterback Bubba Smith led Allegheny to 580 yards of offense by throwing for 361 yards and rushing for 56. In the process, he climbed to No. 1 at the school in career completed passes (410), and tied for No. 1 passing touchdowns (48). Also, senior RB Jon Turner caught nine passes for 137 yards to climb to No. 1 in career receptions at Allegheny with 1,813 yards. He also is No. 1 in career receptions with 146, and is tied for No. 1 in receiving TDs with 18.
WALSH (7-1) vs. GANNON (6-1)
When: 11 a.m.
Where: Fawcewtt Stadium, Canton.
Last year: Gannon 21, Walsh 17.
Scouting report: Walsh beat Geneva last Saturday, 28-21, while Gannon was idle and is riding a six-game winning streak after falling in the season opener. Walsh is in sole possession of first place in the MSFA Mideast, a half-game ahead of St. Francis (3-0). Walsh leads the series with Gannon, 2-1. Gannon was ranked No. 7 in the Eastern College Athletic Conference poll. Walsh sacked Geneva QB Ben Swallow (West Branch) eight times. Senior Andy Berkowitz had eight tackles with four sacks while junior Mike Norris had two sacks. Berkowitz leads the Cavaliers with eight sacks. Sophomore LB Brian Rogers, senior Jay Racick (Girard) and senior DB George Theodoris each had 12 tackles against Geneva. Senior FB Josh Stutzman scored two TDs including the game-winning score that snapped a 21-21 tie. Senior Derek Besgrove rushed for 166 yards including a 6-yard TD run and a 50-yard scamper that set up another score. Besgrove leads the MSFA in rushing with 1,483 yards and scoring with 20 TDs for 120 points. For his career, he has 5,440 rushing yards and 64 TDs.
MALONE (2-5, 0-3 MFSA MIDEAST)vs. ST. FRANCIS (IND.) (7-0, 3-0)
When: 4 p.m.
Where: Fawcett Stadium, Canton.
Last year: St. Francis 33, Malone 27.
Scouting report: Malone lost to Urbana last Saturday, 48-17, while St. Francis rolled to a 48-14 win over Taylor. Junior Adam Capretta (Canfield) caught a 22-yard TD throw from freshman QB Mac Griffin for Malone. Griffin wound up 12-for-26 passing for 151 yards and two TDs, but three interceptions. Sophomore RB Sean Knight rushed for 112 yards in 18 carries for the Pioneers, while Nyrell Knight caught three passes for 48 yards and one TD. On defense, senior LB Jason Kennedy led Malone with 14 tackles while senior LB Ben Carnifax added 11, including two for losses, and also had an interception and pass breakup. Junior DB Mike Swanson added eight tackles while junior DB Danny Kendrick had seven.
GENEVA (4-3, 2-2 MSFA MIDEAST)vs. TAYLOR (1-7, 0-4)
When: 2:30 p.m.
Where: Jim Wheeler Stadium, Upland, Ind.
Last year: Geneva 27, Taylor 3.
Scouting report: Geneva lost to Walsh last Saturday, 28-21, on a last-quarter TD after the score was tied at 21-21. Senior FB Josh Stutzman scored the game-winning TD for the Cavaliers. Geneva had tied the score on Josh Mullen's 3-yard TD in the third quarter. Mullen wound up with 96 yards rushing in 26 carries. Barry Baker, a senior transfer from Syracuse University, rushed for 165 yards to spark Geneva. The Golden Tornadoes' ground attack has grown stronger with three backs carring the load this season. Mullen has 612 yards in 122 carries this season, while red-shirt freshman Brandon Nathan has 450 yards in 87 attempts, and Baker 339 yards in 41 tries. QB Ben Swallow (West Branch) has passed for 1,043 yards and seven touchdowns. Defensively, Chaz Freeman has six sacks and 10 tackles for losses. Senior DB Mark Villella has five interceptions, which give him 17 for his career. Geneva coach Geno DeMarco, who has 75 wins in 11 seasons at the helm, needs one more triumph to tie Gene Sullivan for the most wins in school history. DeMarco was a player for Sullivan during the latter's coaching career in the mid-1980s. Since retiring as Geneva coach in 1992, Sullivan has stayed with the team as an assistant.
SLIPPERY ROCK (3-5, 1-2 PSAC WEST)vs. LOCK HAVEN (3-5, 1-2)
When: 2 p.m.
Where: N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
Last year: Slippery Rock 14, Lock Haven 7.
Scouting report: Slippery Rock dropped a 20-3 decision to Edinboro last week, while Lock Haven lost to Indiana (Pa.), 45-20.
