HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Police said a New Castle man was killed when the vehicle he was driving ran off Broadway Road and overturned in a culvert. Ronald White, 21, of Marshall Avenue, was northbound on Broadway around 4:30 p.m. Friday when his vehicle veered off the right side of the road and into the ditch, police said.
Missing woman found
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The search for a missing Springfield Township woman ended when she was found walking near her Mercer County home 24 hours later. Pennsylvania State Police said Ola J. Lapp, 68, of Millburn Road, walked away from her home around 9 a.m. Friday and disappeared into a wooded area.
Various Mercer County search and rescue groups and state police worked to find her, but the search was called off around 9 p.m. with plans to resume Saturday morning. Police said Lapp turned up at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, again walking on Millburn Road near her home.
A passer-by found her and took her home, police said.
Health center to close
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Jameson Health System will close the Laurel Community Health Center on Nov. 15. The services offered at Laurel included laboratory work, EKGs and blood pressure screenings.
These services are offered at the other Jameson Community Health Centers. Linda Cody, health system spokeswoman, said the building is being closed for economic reasons.
Driving courses for seniors
SHARON, Pa. -- Seniors for Safe Driving courses will be held at Mercer County locations this month.
The course is taught by an AAA-certified instructor, and those who complete it are eligible to save at least 5 percent off their Pennsylvania auto insurance.
The program is open to people 55 and older, and courses run a total of seven hours over two days. No road or classroom test is given.
The class fee is $12, and registration may be arranged by calling (800) 559-4880.
Upcoming course dates are: Monday and Tuesday: 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at UPMC Horizon, Greenville; Nov. 11 and 12: 6 to 9:30 p.m. at Mel Grata Chevrolet, East State Street, Hermitage; Nov. 13 and 14: 1 to 4:30 p.m. at Shenango Valley Senior Center, North Buhl Farm Drive, Hermitage; Nov. 17 and 18: 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Mercer County Cooperative Extension, U.S. Route 19, 1.5 miles north of Mercer.
