Election withdrawals
WARREN -- Warren school board member Nick Frankos Sr. has withdrawn from the race for re-election.
Frankos was running as a write-in candidate after the Trumbull County Board of Elections rejected his petitions for having insufficient signatures.
Nonparty candidate Tony Rosace has also withdrawn from the race for Girard 1st Ward Council.
Laying of the Roses
YOUNGSTOWN -- The 12th annual Laying of the Roses is at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Vietnam War Memorial on the Square in downtown Youngstown.
The event, sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 135, honors American military personnel who were killed or are missing in action while serving their country during the Vietnam War.
The general public, all veterans, and especially people who have loved ones who were killed or are missing in action are invited to attend.
A rose will be presented and placed at the foot of the memorial by family members or friends of each of the veterans after a short ceremony.

Animal fund-raiser
BOARDMAN -- Community Helping Animals in Need, a local animal-rights group, will have its sixth annual Chinese auction beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke Church, 5235 South Ave. WFMJ-TV 21 anchorwoman Laura Steele will host the event. A $4 donation is required, and the proceeds will go toward spaying and neutering animals in the area.
