COMMUNITY DRIVE Tod Children's Hospital benefits from campaign



An evening of celebration Nov. 20 signals the start of the holiday fund-raiser.
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Light Up A Life Celebration Event scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Medical Education Building, located at Northside Medical Center, 500 Gypsy Lane, will launch the Light Up a Life Campaign, a communitywide holiday fund-raising drive that will benefit Tod Children's Hospital.
A tree-lighting ceremony will be held at 6:45 p.m. The landmark pine tree in front of Tod's will be decorated with ornaments and lights.
The tree lighting is free and open to the public. Those interested in attending the celebration event that follows can purchase tickets at the door for $35 per person. The evening will feature live and silent auctions, music, hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar will follow.
Also planned as part of the fund-raiser are:
UThe Chair-ity Project, which is new to the Light Up A Life Campaign. Local high-school artists, Tod's patients and caregivers have painted a variety of chairs in various themes. The chairs will be displayed at various locations prior to the event and will be sold during the auctions.
UChildren's dream playhouses. For the second year, full-size playhouses supplied by area builders will be raffled and auctioned off during the evening. They are on display at Tod's and Fellows Riverside Gardens.
UGingerbread houses. Students at Ursuline Preschool and Dobbins Elementary School will bake and decorate more than 30 gingerbread houses. The houses will be centerpieces at the celebration event, then sold there.
