WARREN -- Chinese music isn't the same in the hands of Mei Han and Randy Raine-Reusch, who will perform at 8 p.m. Monday at Kent State University Trumbull Campus Lecture Hall A, 4314 Mahoning Ave. N.W. Admission is free, and a reception will follow the concert. The duo has developed its own tunings and techniques in finding new ways to use the zheng, an ancient instrument also known as the Chinese zither.
Dana students to perform
YOUNGSTOWN -- Act I of Gian Carlo Menotti's "The Medium" and Seymour Barab's "Little Red Riding Hood" will be performed by students of YSU's Dana Opera Workshop at 8 tonight and Monday in Bliss Recital Hall, Wick Avenue. Admission is free. The students are directed by Dr. Allan Mosher of YSU's voice faculty. Accompanist will be Charmaine Siagian from Borneo.
IMAX 'Matrix' movie
PITTSBURGH -- Wednesday is opening day not only for the movie "The Matrix Revolutions," but "The Matrix Revolutions: The IMAX Experience" at Carnegie Science Center's Omnimax Theater. Digital remastering was used to transfer the last installment of the "Matrix" trilogy to IMAX format. The movie is rated R, so it will be shown evenings through Dec. 31. Tickets are $10. Advance orders are recommended; call the science center at (412) 237-3432.
Photographer's display
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- A display by outdoor photographer Richard Neuman will be shown from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Village Gallery, 115 E. Neshannock Ave. Neuman will be there to sign prints that are purchased. His visit coincides with the community's "Small Town Christmas" events.
Abbey Road's anniversary
YOUNGSTOWN -- Beatles tribute band Abbey Road will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a performance from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave. Tickets are $15 if purchased in advance; call the Butler at (330) 743-1711, Ext. 122. Admission, which includes food and prize giveaways, will be $20 at the door.
Abbey Road began in Youngstown in 1983 and has since traveled across the United States to perform at festivals, universities, in an Atlantic City casino and as opening act for Davy Jones of The Monkees and Tom Jones.
Veterans Day salute
WARREN -- "Lest We Forget" is W.D. Packard Concert Band's annual Veterans Day salute to be presented at 3 p.m. next Sunday in Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. N.W. Conductor Robert E. Fleming will lead the band in George M. Cohan's "Star Spangled Spectacular," an arrangement of Glenn Miller Orchestra music and a salute to all branches of military service. American flags will be distributed among the audience. Admission is free.
