What can I do about pimples on my thighs?

Q: I am overweight and my thighs rub, so I get pimples. They take forever to go away and once they do, the skin is discolored for a while. I have been working out and know that is the permanent solution, but is there anything I can do in the meantime?
A: Yes, there are several things you can do for the pimples (actually sebaceous cysts) that you are describing. These friction sores are very common in areas where the skin rubs together, and you are very wise to know that the permanent answer is to work out and trim down your thighs. Meanwhile, try the following:
- Minimize friction by wearing absorbent cotton slacks for day, or cotton sweat pants for exercise, and try not to let bare skin rub together.
- Avoid tight jeans, spandex, or other materials that make you sweat and won't let your skin & quot;breathe. & quot;
- The cysts get infected with a Staphylococcal skin bacteria (that's why they have pus and heal with that purple color). Wash with an antibacterial soap (many are available now over the counter or ask your pharmacist for recommendations) and dry your skin thoroughly.
- If the cysts are large and numerous, see you doctor for an evaluation and perhaps a prescription for antibiotics to reduce the infection.
Some people seem more prone to skin infections than others (it may be hereditary), but the condition can be controlled, so remain confident!
