No progress reportedin RMI, union talks
WEATHERSFIELD -- Union leaders reported no progress Thursday after five hours of negotiating with RMI Titanium officials with the help of a federal mediator. "No news, no changes," said Todd Weddell, president of United Steelworkers of America Local 2155.
About 380 union workers have been manning informational pickets outside the Weathersfield Township titanium mill since Monday, when the company locked the gates and refused to let them come to work. The workers had rejected what the company called its "final offer" in voting Saturday.
Weddell said the picketing will continue and the union has asked the mediator to try to set up another meeting next week.
