Highlights of Wednesday's meeting of the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District:
Increased the salary of treasurer Alan Tatalovich by 6 percent in a one-year contract. He will be paid $57,000 annually. Management employees also received 6 percent pay increases.
Agreed to hire three assistant operators, six additional field maintenance employees, a mechanic and a police officer. The district has no assistant operators. Applications for the new positions will be accepted until Nov. 14. Applications on file remain valid. If all are hired, it would bring the total number of employees to 42.
Agreed to advertise for a new chief engineer, superintendent of purification and chief of operations. Chief Engineer Dave Tabak retired in July, and John Zackasee, superintendent of operations, will retire in 2004.
