Judge Thomas Dobson of Mercer County Common Pleas Court sentenced nine people Thursday:
William McDermott, 46, of West Palm Beach, Fla.: One to three years in prison and ordered to make restitution for theft by unlawful taking, a felony. According to court documents, on Jan. 24, Lakeland Chrysler Dodge Inc. in Hempfield Township permitted him to take a 1988 Dodge Caravan worth $9,000 overnight with the understanding he would return the next day and buy the vehicle. Instead, he took the van and left the area.Walter Matters, 54, of Orangeville, Ohio: Nine to 30 months in prison followed by five years' probation for two misdemeanor counts of corruption of minors. According to court documents, between June 1999 and September 2002, while supervising an 11- and a 9-year-old girl, he touched and rubbed their genitals and also exposed himself to them. All the offenses took place at a South Pymatuning Township home.Matthew Bucciarelli, 22, of Fifth Street, Sharon: One year's probation for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. According to court documents, on May 3 he was apprehended at a Sharon home with 24 plastic bags of marijuana. The paraphernalia charge resulted from possession of the bags commonly used to hold marijuana.Brant Collins, 28, of Old Ash Road, Mercer: Four to 12 months in jail for felony burglary. In August 2002, he stole more than $2,000 worth of items, including power tools and automotive supplies, from a gas station in Jackson Township.Jessica Hoffman, 19, of Harrisville, Pa.: Nine months in the Intermediate Punishment Program and ordered to perform 150 hours community service and was ordered to make restitution for misdemeanor forgery. She forged a check for $553 from a closed account at a grocery store in Pine Township, according to court documents.Joy Howell, 27, of Lee Avenue, Farrell: 30 months' probation for felony retail theft. On April 5, she stole $49 worth of clothing from Wal-Mart, 3300 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage, according to court documents.Johnny Kirby Jr., 26, of Washington Street, Farrell: Two to 18 months in jail and one year's concurrent probation for a felony count of possessing firearms without a license and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and simple assault. According to court documents, on May 15 he threatened to kill a woman and chased her with a vehicle in the 1000 block of Sherman Avenue, Sharon. He was apprehended with a handgun that he was not authorized to carry, and also fought Sharon police officers when they tried to arrest him.Joel Mandrell, 24, of the State Correctional Institute, Albion: Nine to 36 months in prison for an Oct. 6, 2002, burglary at Coffaro's Pizza, 120 N. Broad St., Grove City. The break-in netted him $191. He also did $231 damage to the business, according to court documents.Shauna Vukovich, 24, of West Market Street, Mercer: 18 months' probation and ordered to make restitution for a June 11 theft of $128 from the Slovak Home, 800 Spearman Ave., Farrell. She pleaded guilty to misdemeanor criminal conspiracy/theft by unlawful taking. According to court documents, she conspired with a man to commit the theft.
