YOUNGSTOWN STATE UNIVERSITY
The following students have been inducted into Alpha Alpha Rho, YSU's chapter of the national political science honor society: Nicholas M. Evans of Hubbard; Sherman J. Miles of Campbell; Rebecca A. Royer of Canfield; Brandi R. Stewart of Austintown; Christopher C. Thompson of Boardman; Tina L. Thompson of Poland; and Kelli L. Vogt of Mingo Junction. Membership in the national organization requires students to have junior or senior status, 15 completed semester hours of political science course work and a 3.0 or better grade point average, with a 3.5 in the political science core.
JOHN CARROLL UNIVERSITY, University Heights
Sophomore Beth Anne McClure of Struthers has been inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society for students who have achieved a grade point average of at least 3.5 during the freshman year. Members are encouraged to perform community and campus service and are eligible for scholarships. McClure, who plans to major in comprehensive chemistry, is in the honor program at JCU. A 2002 valedictorian graduate of Struthers High School, she is the daughter of Larry and Linda McClure.
UNIVERSITY OF AKRON
Kelly Zunic of Canfield is one of 17 students to receive a 2003-2004 Hilltoppers Scholarship for students who achieve a grade point average of at least 3.0. The $500 scholarship is renewable.
CUMBERLAND COLLEGE, Williamsburg, Ky.
Junior Korey Howard of Youngstown finished first place in the programmed oral interpretation of literature category, and fourth place in both informative speaking and dramatic interpretation of literature during a tournament sponsored by Middle Tennessee State University at that school. He also finished third in programmed oral interpretation of literature, fourth in informative speaking and sixth in extemporaneous speaking in a Vanderbilt University tournament held at MTSU.
BALDWIN-WALLACE COLLEGE, Berea
Violin student David Bartos of Boardman recently presented a senior recital at the college's Conservatory of Music, performing J.S. Bach's Partita No. 3 in E Major, Ludwig Van Beethoven's sonata in A minor Op. 23, and Tommaso Vitali's Chaconne in G minor.
Bartos is pursuing a music education degree and is secretary of the Conservatory Student Council and a member of the Ohio Collegiate Music Education Association. A 2000 graduate of Boardman High School, he is the son of Thomas and Barbara Bartos.
