Attempted abduction thwarted at day care

FRANKLIN, Pa. (AP) -- Oil City police arrested a Venango County man on charges that he tried to take a little girl from a day-care center so that he could rape her.
Tracie Lee Black, 21, of Franklin, faces a preliminary hearing Nov. 12 on charges of attempted kidnapping and attempted rape.
Police say Black entered a church-run preschool Monday and pretended to be the older brother of one of its female pupils. Black merely picked a girl at random, police alleged.
When a teacher became suspicious and asked a janitor for help, Black ran away but was later found by officers, police said. Authorities said Black told them he planned to take the girl to a wooded area and rape her.
Black remained in the Venango County Jail on Wednesday, unable to post $100,000 bond. He applied for a public defender, but it wasn't immediately clear today if an attorney had been appointed to represent him.
