New zoning inspector
CRAIG BEACH -- Village council has hired a new zoning inspector. Beginning Saturday, Nick Marcu of Niles will serve on a three-month trial basis, council member Wanda Sabol said. His monthly salary will be $166. Mayor Camille Gaia is the village's acting zoning inspector.
Council read a legal opinion by Solicitor James Vivo that they say settles an issue raised recently by a resident. The citizen alleged that it was a conflict of interest for council members Sabol and Larry Ellis to serve on council and be acting street commissioners, a position Ellis has held since April. Vivo ruled in council's favor by pointing out that serving in both capacities does not represent a conflict of interest. Sabol said that neither she nor Ellis get paid to serve as street commissioners and that they're doing it to save the village money and to have better communication with the street department.
