Flu shot clinics reset
Two flu shot clinics postponed because of a lack of flu vaccine have been rescheduled. One will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday at the Greenville Knights of Columbus and the other from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Reynolds VFW in Transfer. The clinics are sponsored by UPMC Horizon, Primary Health Network and the Pennsylvania Department of Health. For information, call Primary Health at (724) 342-3002.
Tampered-candy detectors
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Trick-or-treaters can have their candy checked for metal objects at the Lawrence County Government Center. The county security staff will be available from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday to put candy through the machine at the building entrance. The service is free.
Former manager's hearing
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A hearing in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court for Roger Havey, a former New Castle School District business manager, has been changed to 2:15 p.m. Dec. 16. Havey is suing the district to regain his job. He was fired by the board last summer. Board members contend Havey did not reveal he had a criminal record before he was hired.
Hunter injured by pellets
LITTLE BEAVER, Pa. -- A 75-year-old man was injured in an accidental shooting while hunting. State police said Rudolph Vukmirovich of Monaca, Pa., was hunting with two friends in a field off Orchard Road in Little Beaver Township in Lawrence County at 9 a.m. Tuesday when one shot at a rabbit. Vukmirovich was hit by seven pellets in both upper legs. He was taken to Aliquippa Hospital for treatment, police said.
Tour bus driver arrested
BARKEYVILLE, Pa. -- State police arrested the driver of a tour bus after he stopped his vehicle in a rest area along Interstate 80 and refused to move until his passengers gave him money. State police charged Kai Chen, 44, of Brooklyn, N.Y., with disorderly conduct, harassment and a violation of his driver's log book. Police said he was the driver of a tour bus headed east on Interstate 80 from Chicago to New York City at about 3 a.m. Sunday when he pulled into a rest area. He demanded money form his passengers who had already paid for their trip, and when they refused to give him more, he took the keys and got off the bus, police said.
Vehicle vandalism
SALEM -- Vandals damaged three vehicles parked outside residences, police said. Windows were shattered in a car parked outside a home on the 400 block of South Broadway Avenue. The crime was reported about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Windows were broken on two cars parked outside a home on the 300 block of West Pershing Street. A BB or pellet gun may have been used in that crime, which was reported at 12:19 a.m. today, police said.
Salem Goodwill theft
SALEM -- Someone has been stealing items from the Salem Goodwill, 187 S. Broadway Ave. Police said the charity has reported that items are being taken from a drop-off area behind the store. In the last six weeks, two bicycles, a brass bed and a patio set were stolen. The crimes were reported at 8:58 a.m. Tuesday.
