Charities get proceeds from LPGA event



VIENNA -- Sixty-eight charities shared a record $460,000 from the 2003 Giant Eagle LPGA Classic.
Mahoning Valley Sports Charities Inc., the event's nonprofit owner, reported that area children's and educational charities were recipients.
Tom Hollern, sports charities chairman, presented checks to charity representatives during a breakfast meeting Tuesday at Squaw Creek Country Club, the site of the tournament.
Hollern also recognized tournament sponsors for the event's success and singled out Giant Eagle for contributing to the tournament's longevity.
Elainna Sachire, volunteer chairwoman, commented on the importance of volunteer involvement. She announced names of charities as Hollern distributed checks.
The 2004 Giant Eagle LPGA Classic is scheduled July 12 to 18 at Squaw Creek. Founders and sponsors include Cellular One, Trumbull County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Giant Eagle, National City Bank, Pepsi, Superior Beverage Group, Dean Dairy Products Co., Friends of Squaw Creek, and Superior Printing Co.
