ST. LOUIS -- Brent Johnson made 26 saves for his first shutout since last December, and Scott Mellanby scored in his season debut.
Johnson, the backup behind Chris Osgood, made his second start of the season. He lasted less than a period in his first start last week at Edmonton, allowing three goals on six shots. He entered Tuesday's game with a 5.29 goals-against average.
The Predators saw a much better goaltender. They came up empty on a handful of point-blank shots in Johnson's first shutout since Dec. 23, 2002. He was at his best in the second period when he thwarted David Legwand, Jordin Tootoo, Scott Walker and Marek Zidlicky.

New York's Rick DiPietro turned aside 23 shots, but lost for the second time this season. The defeat snapped a three-game home winning streak for the Islanders.

Sandis Ozolinsh, Niclas Havelid and Rob Niedermayer scored for Anaheim.
Avalanche 4, Flames 2
DENVER -- Jim Cummins scored a rare goal and Colorado beat Calgary on a night the Avalanche retired goaltender Patrick Roy's No. 33.
