Purse: $5 million. Winner's share: $700,000.
Television: ESPN (Thursday-Friday, 4-7 p.m.) and CBS (Saturday, 3-6 p.m.; Sunday, 2-6 p.m.).
Last year: Jim Furyk ended Tiger Woods' three-year reign, closing with a 67 for a two-stroke victory over John Cook and David Peoples. Woods tied for 22nd, six strokes back.
Last week: Kenny Perry won the Colonial, matching the course record with a third-round 61 en route to a tournament-record 19-under 261 total. Justin Leonard closed with a 61 to finish second, six strokes back. Annika Sorenstam became the first woman in 58 years to play in a PGA Tour event, missing the cut with rounds of 71 and 74.
Notes: Tiger Woods is making his final start before the U.S. Open in two weeks at Olympia Fields. He's coming off a 29th-place tie two weeks ago in Germany, his only event since the Masters. ... Tournament host Jack Nicklaus designed the course and won the event in 1977 and 1984. He completely rebuilt the par-4 17th hole in the last year, increasing its length from 437 yards to 478. ... Ernie Els is coming off a fourth-place finish in the Volvo PGA in England. ... Masters champion Mike Weir and Davis Love III, tied with Woods for the tour lead with three victories, also are in the field that features eight of the top-10 players in the world rankings. ... Tom Lehman set the tournament record in 1994, shooting four 67s for a 20-under 268 total. John Huston shot a course-record 61 in 1996. ... The FBR Capital Open is next week in Potomac, Md.
LPGA TOUR
Kellogg-Keebler Classic
Schedule: Friday-Sunday.
Course: Stonebridge Country Club, Aurora, Ill., (6,413 yards, par 72).
Purse: $1.2 million. Winner's share: $180,000.
Television: ESPN2 (Friday, 1-3 p.m.; Sunday, 5-7 p.m.) and ESPN (Saturday, 5-7 p.m.).
Last year: Annika Sorenstam matched the tour record for relation to par in a 54-hole event, finishing at 21-under 195 for an 11-stroke victory.
Last week: Juli Inkster won the Corning Classic for her 29th tour victory, closing with a career-best 10-under 62 -- matching the lowest final round ever by an LPGA winner -- for a tournament-record 24-under 264 total. Lorie Kane finished second, four strokes back.
Notes: Sorenstam returns to the LPGA Tour after becoming the first woman in 58 years to play in a PGA Tour event. The Swedish star missed the cut last week in the Colonial with rounds of 71 and 74. ... The McDonald's LPGA Championship, the second major of the season, is next week in Wilmington, Del. ... Inkster's victory was the second straight by a U.S. player. Foreign-born players won 17 consecutive tournaments before Rosie Jones took the Asahi Ryokuken three weeks ago in South Carolina.
CHAMPIONS TOUR
Music City Championship
Schedule: Friday-Sunday.
Course: Springhouse Golf Club, Nashville, Tenn., (6,783 yards, par 72).
Purse: $1.4 million. Winner's share: $210,000.
Television: The Golf Channel (Friday-Saturday, 5-7:30 p.m., 8-10:30 p.m.; Sunday, 5-7:30 p.m., 9-11 p.m.).
Last year: Gil Morgan won the tournament for the second time in six years, beating Bruce Fleisher, Mike McCullough and Dana Quigley by three strokes.
Last week: Morris Hatalsky won the Columbus Southern Open for his second senior title, edging Allen Doyle by a stroke.
Notes: D.A. Weibring is making his first Champions Tour start. The five-time PGA Tour winner turned 50 on Sunday. ... Craig Stadler will be 50 on Monday. He will make his tour debut next week in the Senior PGA Championship at Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pa.
PGA EUROPEAN TOUR
Wales Open
Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.
Course: Celtic Manor Resort, Wentwood Hills Course (7,355 yards, par 72).
Purse: $2.48 million. Winner's share: $412,700.
Television: The Golf Channel (Thursday-Friday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday, 3-4:30 a.m., 9 a.m.-noon).
Last week: Scotland's Paul Lawrie won his fifth European tour title. England's John Bickerton finished second, five strokes back.
Last week: Spain's Ignacio Garrido won the Volvo PGA Championship, beating South Africa's Trevor Immelman with a birdie on the first hole of a playoff. Garrido earned a five-year European tour exemption.
