Printers accused of selling unpublished stock data
NEW YORK -- Two Wisconsin factory workers made $1.4 million by paying two printing-plant workers for advance information from BusinessWeek magazine, then trading on stocks mentioned in it, prosecutors said.
Federal prosecutors made the announcement Wednesday as three of the four people involved in the alleged scheme pleaded guilty to conspiring to violate federal securities law.
The factory workers paid the printing-plant workers $50 to $500 weekly for information from the magazine's Inside Wall Street column.
One factory worker, Gregory Misfeldt, has agreed to pay the government $458,000 and could get up to five years in prison at his sentencing Sept. 10. The other factory worker is due to appear in court later.
The two employees of the Waterloo, Wis., printing plant could get up to five years in prison and fines.
