Hoyt to match donations

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The City Rescue Mission has received a matching grant challenge from The Hoyt Foundation.
The Hoyt Foundation will match dollar-for-dollar, up to $25,000, all donations to the mission through Saturday, said Kevin Green, executive director and CEO of the City Rescue Mission.
"We have been blessed recently with a great outpouring of much-needed food and supplies, but that does not pay the bills for light, heat and upkeep," he said. "Nor does it pay for the staff to minister to the hopeless and hurting who come our way."
Green said that last year, more than 9,500 people in Lawrence, Mercer, Beaver and Butler counties received help at the City Rescue Mission. The mission provided 92,500 meals and 15,270 nights of lodging through its ministries to men, women, children and families, Green said.
Some 400 local children and teens attend the mission's youth program at the Sankey Center on Grant Street in New Castle, where they participate in educational and recreational activities such as tutoring, computer lab, basketball, crafts, cooking classes, Bible study groups and more.
Donations may be dropped off or mailed to the mission's main office, 319 Croton Ave., New Castle. If mailed, donations must be postmarked by May 31.
