CEO details hospital's accomplishments for board
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The opening of a new emergency department at UPMC Horizon's Greenville facility highlighted the hospital's operations over the past year.
Dean Eckenrode, president and chief executive officer, outlined the past year's accomplishments at the annual board of directors' reorganization meeting Tuesday.
The new emergency department is twice the size of the old one and has additional treatment rooms, a new waiting room, separate entrances for the public and ambulance staff and new state-of-the-art technology, Eckenrode said.
UPMC Horizon has served 10,539 inpatients, performed 14,281 surgical procedures and treated 32,422 patients in its emergency department at Greenville and Farrell over the past year, he said.
Other highlights of the year include:
UOpening a Heartburn Treatment Center.
UCooperating with Sharon Regional Health System and United Community Hospital on the Mercer County Sexual Assault Response Team.
UEarning a Certificate of Excellence, one of only 21 awarded, from the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council.
UDeveloping a stress-management program for emergency response personnel.
UIntroducing a voice-recognition technology in the imaging department, reducing turn-around time on radiology reports.
