CDBG FUNDING Columbiana County



Columbiana County commissioners said they will have a difficult task deciding how to dole out $273,000 in Community Development Block Grants. Representatives of various county agencies and municipalities brought the projects they hope to have funded -- $1.5 million worth -- to commissioners Wednesday:
Columbiana County sanitary engineer, $180,000 to help fund installation of 26,114 feet of 20-inch waterline from West Point to Lisbon along state Route 45.
Salineville, $23,502 for replacement of the main waterlines along Water Street and installation of four fire hydrants.
Leetonia, $126,000 for waterline improvements to extend a high-pressure waterline to the southeast side of the village, an east-west line through the village for residential, commercial and industrial water use.
Columbiana County sanitary engineer, $200,000 to help fund engineering services for the Hanoverton-Kensington area sewer system. This area has been placed under orders by the EPA to provide a sewer system to the residents in the area.
Columbiana, $294,939, Southern Avenue sewer and waterline improvements, to replace failing septic systems and wells. The project has been approved by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
Hanoverton, $5,434 to replace storm sewers at Clinton Street and an alley. The project will improve drainage and eliminate flooding.
Leetonia, $80,950 for Main Street resurfacing, a portion of brick street between Elm and Washington streets.
Leetonia, $78,200 for Walnut Street resurfacing, the concrete surface between Main Street and Butcher Road in the village.
Butler Township, $100,448 to repave streets in Damascus damaged by heavy equipment during a sewer line installation project.
Madison Township, $101,630 to remove a hillside, widen the road and install guardrails on Cameron Road.
St. Clair Township, $181,400 to construct 2,300 feet of road to connect state Route 170 with McGuffy Drive for alleviation of traffic congestion on Route 170 and provide access to 60 acres of land for economic development and job creation.
Lisbon, $50,000 to install sidewalks on the north side of town on North Market Street north to Rose Drive, improving safety for residents and others using the post office, apartments and health-care complex.
East Palestine, $23,000 to install curb and gutter and sidewalk in front of the East Palestine Elementary School. The sidewalk is in poor condition and has no curbs, the sidewalk is lower than the street, which causes flooding.
Unity Township, $80,000 to buy 17 acres for park development including baseball fields, a picnic area and walking trail.
Middleton Township, $11,500 to replace self-contained breathing apparatus for Rogers volunteer firefighters. Equipment cannot be brought up to current standards.
Middleton Township, $7,778 to install a well with high-volume pump to aid in fire protection for Rogers.
Middleton Township, $7,778 to install a well with a high-volume pump for fire protection in Negley.
