SALEM -- The traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will arrive in Salem on Thursday and be on display at Waterworth Memorial Park from Friday through June 5.
The memorial is inscribed with the names of some 58,000 Americans who were killed or listed as missing during the Vietnam War. Salem Mayor Larry DeJane said workers are preparing the site at the park today. The replica wall will be located near the band shell at the park. The best access to the area is from Sunset Boulevard off North Lincoln Avenue (state Route 45), DeJane said.
District attorney position
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Lawrence County commissioners introduced an ordinance that would make the county district attorney a full-time position. The measure would mean that District Attorney Matthew Mangino would have to give up his private law practice. His salary would go from $60,000 per year to $120,225 per year, according to state law. A federal grant would pay the extra salary costs for the first two years and then the county would pay those costs. There are 26 other full-time district attorneys in Pennsylvania, officials have said. In other business Tuesday, commissioners designated 200 acres in Neshannock Township as a Keystone Opportunity Expansion Zone. The property, located in Millennium Park off of Pa. Route 60, is exempt from state and local taxes until 2013. Officials say a semiconductor company is considering building a plant on the land.
