Sharpsville man killedin one-vehicle accident
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A Sharpsville man was killed in a one-vehicle accident on Pa. Route 60 in North Beaver Township, state police said.
Police said the victim, Donald A. Kermiet, 34, of Georgetown Street, was a passenger in a Chevy Trailblazer driven by Timothy Mallory, 27, of Northfield Avenue Northwest, Warren, Ohio, which ran off the road, struck an embankment and flipped over about 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Mallory was northbound at the time of the crash and that neither he nor Kermiet was wearing a seat belt, police said.
Kermiet was pronounced dead at the scene by Russell Noga, acting Lawrence County coroner.
Mallory was thrown from his vehicle, police said. He was in stable condition this morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Counterfeit bill found
SALEM -- Consumers Bank employees turned in a counterfeit $100 bill to police.
A teller said a customer brought the bill to the bank to change it for smaller bills Friday. The customer did not know the bill was counterfeit, police said.
Applications for camp
LISBON -- The Lisbon Salvation Army unit is taking applications for Camp Neosa for income-eligible children ages 6-12. Camp dates are July 24-29.
Applications are taken on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of 45 campers. Applicants must bring proof of gross household income, an Ohio Works First Medicaid card or a food stamp card. The income guidelines are set at 150 percent of federal poverty level, or about $32,000 a year, for a family of five.
Camp Neosa is on Leesville Lake in Carrollton.

Barked at police dog
FARRELL, Pa. -- Police arrested Darryl L. Richardson, 42, of Emerson Avenue, for barking at their patrol car.
Police said a K9 dog was in the car and that Richardson barked at the car on two occasions shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday as it drove past where he was standing along Idaho Street. The barking caused the dog to become defensive, and police arrested Richardson on a charge of taunting a police animal.
He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance pending a preliminary hearing at a later date.
Horse thefts reported
FREDONIA, Pa. -- State police are looking for a horse rustler.
Police said Frank Braatz of Mercer Road, Delaware Township, reported that someone stole a mare and a newborn colt from his pasture sometime Friday or Saturday.
The mare stands 36 inches high at the shoulder and is brown and white.
Deer cause accidents
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- State police said three deer trying to cross Interstate 79 caused two accidents.
Michael I. Driban, 28, of Girard, Ohio, was southbound on I-79 around 7 p.m. Thursday when three deer ran into his path. Police said Driban swerved to avoid them and his car ran into the median and struck an embankment. He wasn't hurt but his car had to be towed.
Police said the deer continued across the highway into the northbound lanes and one was hit by a car driven by Violet E. Sippy, 73, of Myrtle Beach, S.C. The deer died but Sippy and a passenger escaped injury, police said.
Alumni banquet set
KINSMAN -- Graduates of Kinsman and Badger high schools are invited to the 75th Kinsman Alumni Banquet on June 14.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. in the fire department building on Center Ridge Road, with a swiss steak dinner at 6:30.
Cost is $7, plus $2 for alumni dues. Guest fee is $7. There is no charge for those who graduated before 1938.
