FIRE DEPARTMENT Lisbon council agrees to pay a portion of new Jaws of Life
LISBON -- Village council agreed Tuesday to pay one-third of the cost for a new set of Jaws of Life for the Lisbon Fire Department.
According to Fire Chief James Blackhurst, the new equipment, used to free victims from smashed vehicles, will cost about $1,200. It will replace equipment that was bought used about 10 to 12 years ago and weighs 75 pounds. The new equipment weighs only 35 pounds, he said.
Blackhurst said that the Elkrun Township trustees have also agreed to pay one-third of the cost for the new equipment and he is going to approach the Center Township trustees for the other third. Those two townships and the village share in the operating costs for the fire department.
If Center Township isn't willing to go along with the purchase, Blackhurst said he would return to council with other funding ideas.
Pool concession
In other business at its meeting Monday, council announced it's looking for nonprofit groups to run the concession stand at the village pool as a fund-raising venture. Liability insurance and the proper food license must be obtained. Interested parties are to contact the mayor's office by noon Monday.
Council will hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Friday to "iron out" details regarding the termination of village Administrator Kevin Brooks, Mayor Jeff Snyder said.
On May 12, council voted not to renew Brooks' contract.
Snyder said Brooks' last day of work was May 19.
