YOUNGSTOWN -- A breakfast honoring community leaders who have helped develop a certificate program in American Humanics at Youngstown State University is planned for 8 a.m. Thursday in the Humphrey Room of Kilcawley Center on campus.
The group of leaders, formally known as the Center for Nonprofit Leadership Community Council, was formed by YSU President David C. Sweet and Donald Cagigas, president of Youngstown/Mahoning Valley United Way.
The council helped YSU put together an academic program that prepares students to become leaders in nonprofit organizations.
The certificate program in American Humanics, which includes 180 hours of course work, a 300-hour internship and attendance at a national American Humanics Management Institute, formally begins this fall.
A dozen students have signed up for the program.
Council members have helped publicize the new program, attended recruitment events, reviewed curriculum proposals and committed to provide internships to students.
