BOARDMAN Attorney is chosen to fill post on board

Special meetings scheduled for today and Friday are canceled.
BOARDMAN -- Atty. Kathi McNabb Welsh, Mahoning County chief deputy clerk of courts, has been selected to fill a vacancy on the governing board of the Mahoning County Educational Service Center.
McNabb Welsh, of Boardman, has served as deputy clerk since 1994. She was a county assistant prosecutor from 1989 to 1994 and an Akron assistant city prosecutor from 1986 to 1988. She was chief assistant prosecutor in Akron in 1987.
She will fill the position left open after the death of Pat Vivo, who had served on the board since January 1986.

Ten people applied for the post. The board selected McNabb Welsh after a special meeting Friday. Meetings for today and this Friday have been canceled. A June 3 special meeting will be held to swear in McNabb Welsh.
MCESC Superintendent William H. Hyde said McNabb Welsh was selected from a list of impressive candidates. Board members made the choice in private executive session. McNabb Welsh must now stand for election this fall.
The new board member holds a law degree from the University of Akron and earned her undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State University.
President of the Mahoning County Bar Association, McNabb Welsh was the first woman elected to that post, in June 2002. She is also a member of the Northeast Ohio Legal Services board of directors; the Mahoning County Law Library Association board of trustees; and the Ohio State Bar Association.
She is an active member of St. Charles Church in Boardman and of the Boardman Center Middle School PTA.
She is married to Atty. Timothy G. Welsh. They have one son, 11.
