CHAMPIONS TOUR Thorpe, Hatalsky share lead entering final round

COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) -- Jim Thorpe shot a 6-under-par 64 and Morris Hatalsky had a 65 on Saturday to share the second-round lead in the Champions Tour's Columbus Southern Open.
"It's been a long time since I've been in this position, so I'm going to cherish the moment for a while," said Thorpe, a five-time winner on the 50-and-over tour.
Hatalsky is seeking his second senior victory.
"It's two solid rounds for me," he said. "I'm feeling good about the way I'm swinging the golf club lately."
Thorpe and Hatalsky had 9-under 131 totals on the Green Island Country Club course for a one-stroke lead over Doug Tewell (64), Tom Jenkins (65), Allen Doyle (66) and Ireland's Des Smyth (66).
Jim Ahern (65) and Dana Quigley (67) were two strokes back at 7 under, and Tom Kite (68) and Ed Dougherty (69) followed at 134.
Despite wet conditions that made for prime scoring conditions, Thorpe took few chances.
"I played smarter today than I did Friday," Thorpe said. "All in all, it was a patient round today. The doors were open for me. I saw the leaders weren't going anywhere.
"If I can make some fast birdies we'll be OK. I hope I can play the front nine well again. I'll take some chances on the back nine. I think it will take 63 or another 64 to win."
The muscular Thorpe will be paired with the slight Hatalsky.
"Thank goodness we're playing golf and not arm wrestling," Hatalsky said.
