YOUNGSTOWN -- Howland native Jason Trapp has signed a letter of intent to continue his tennis career at Youngstown State University, according to men's tennis coach Eric Ronan.
Trapp, a No. 2 singles and doubles player for Howland High School, helped the Tigers clinch a share of the Metro Athletic Conference title this season. He won the sectionals double title this season and last year made it to the state tournament in doubles play.
Hill cancelsgirls team camp
YOUNGSTOWN -- The 2003 Youngstown State University girls basketball team camp has been canceled, women's coach Tisha Hill has announced.

HOWLAND -- Carlie Eastman, a senior at Howland High School, will be continuing her golf career at Anderson College in Anderson, S.C., in the fall.
Eastman earned a scholarship to the college and will be majoring in business. During Eastman's senior season, she advanced to the district women's golf tournament.
Blewitt winsshot put event
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Adriane Blewitt, an Ashland University senior from Boardman High, won the shot put at the NCAA Division II Championships on Friday at Southern Illinois University.
Blewitt won with a throw of 57 feet, 6 1/2 inches.
She was second in the hammer throw Thursday with a toss of 205-1 and will compete in the discus today at 4 p.m.
Last weekend, Blewitt competed at the Georgia Tech Invitational with the nation's top shot putters.
Blewitt won the shot put with a personal-best throw of 59-1/4, besting North Carolina's Laura Gerraughty (57-11 3/4) and California's Kristen Heaston (57-1/4).
CBS will air an hour-long special, "Championships of the NCAA," from 2-3 p.m. Sunday. It will feature many NCAA athletes, including Blewitt and her teammate and roommate Jackie Jeschelnig.

AUSTINTOWN -- Eighth-grader Danielle Burin set a Boardman Center Middle School record at the Mahoning County Middle School track meet Monday at Fitch High.
Burin's school record came in the 100-meter dash in which her time was 12.9. The old Boardman Center record of 13.0 stood since 1981.
Frank Ohl's Akilah Mayes, however, won the county meet's 100 in 12.5. Burin and Canfield Middle's Audra Frimpong shared second place.
Mayes, a seventh-grader, also won the 200 and long jump. The middle school meet record of 12.0 was established in 1982, according to Ohl girls coach Brian Beany.
Boardman Center won the meet's Division I title with 113 points. Ohl was runner-up with 75 1/2.
Ward setsAlliance visit
ALLIANCE -- IBA Heavyweight Champion Vonda Ward will be at the Carnation Mall in Alliance on June 1 to sign autographs and various sports memorabilia.
Ward is promoting her upcoming 10-round title fight at the Canton Civic Center on July 11 against Martha Salazar.

Walsh's Kohl earns honor
NORTH CANTON -- Walsh junior Shannon Kohl, a Fitch High graduate, earned first team NAIA All-America honors for the second straight year after leading the Cavaliers to their second NAIA national championship appearance.
Kohl is Walsh's all-time leader in career average (.450), hits (276), triples (16) and runs scored (163). She set a school record with a .485 batting average this season.
DeSalvo namedto first team
MARIETTA -- Marietta senior pitcher Matt DeSalvo of New Castle was named to the first team of the Division III All-America baseball team.
DeSalvo went 13-2 with a 1.31 ERA, striking out 157 and walking just 40.

Aeros win
AKRON, -- Eric Crozier hit a three-run homer as the Akron Aeros beat the Reading Phillies 6-2 Friday night in the Eastern League.
Crozier's eighth homer of the season came in Akron's five-run third inning.
Grady Sizemore had a two-run double in the third and Tyler Minges had an RBI double in the eighth for the Aeros.
Jeremy Guthrie (6-2) gave up two hits in five scoreless innings for the win.
