PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Pittsburgh Pirates utilityman Rob Mackowiak was arrested early Friday and charged with driving under the influence.
Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Tammy Ewin said Mackowiak was arrested about 3 a.m. in the city's Strip District, an area with a number of nightclubs. The arrest came about 5 1/2 hours after the Cubs-Pirates game ended.
According to the police report, Mackowiak was stopped after an officer saw him cross the center line, make an illegal turn through a red light and start driving the wrong way.
Mackowiak was charged with two counts of driving under the influence after his blood alcohol content was measured at .13 percent, Ewin said. The state limit is .10 percent.
Mackowiak was in uniform for the Cardinals-Pirates game Friday night.
"The Pirates are aware of the situation regarding Rob Mackowiak," Pirates general manager Dave Littlefield said in a statement. "We have spoken with Rob and will deal with the unfortunate incident internally once we obtain all the facts."
Mackowiak is hitting .226 with one homer and one RBI in 62 at-bats. He hit 16 homers in 385 at-bats last season.
