GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Plans for the second annual Riverside Park festival are well under way, but there's still room for vendors, says Julie Miller, one of the festival organizers.
The Greenville Area Preservation Association started the event last summer to raise money for some town projects that borough officials would not be able to fund.
Organization members chose Riverside Park to be the beneficiary of their efforts.
"Last year we raised enough money to begin updating the electricity in some of the park pavilions, and we bought some new grills," Miller said.
She said this year they hope to finish the electrical upgrades and maybe buy some new playground equipment.
How it works
All projects are chosen by GAPA members, and money is paid directly to the contractor or retailer, Miller said. Projects don't become a part of the park's operating budget.
This year's festival is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 21 and noon to 5 p.m. June 22.
Among the events planned so far is a cruise-in for classic cars from noon to 4 p.m. June 21. Trophies to be awarded include best of show, participants' choice and people's choice. There also will be door prizes for the cruise-in participants.
Miller said other attractions on the schedule are food vendors, face painting, things for the kids to do, entertainment, business displays, craft tables and a 50/50 raffle.
"It's something that I hope will continue to grow over the years," Miller added.
Proceeds
Although some of the festival proceeds will go to the association to cover operating costs, Miller said 75 percent of all money taken in goes to park improvements.
Vendor spaces are available to nonprofit agencies for $10, or free if they are only handing out information. Craft spaces cost $20; food vendors and business displays cost $25. Electrical hookups cost $15 or $20 extra depending on voltage.
Admission is free.
