Flooding, power outage

Flooding, power outage
Minor flooding and a power failure hit Trumbull County when heavy rain, wind and lightning passed through the area late Friday.
Officials reported many flooded back yards and basements in Howland, a flooded basement in Southington and Girard, and flooding along Mahoning Avenue and Anderson-Anthony Road in Champion.
Police directed traffic at U.S. Route 422 and state Route 534 in Southington until the Ohio Department of Transportation could install temporary stop signs because the traffic light there was darkened by a power failure, which affected 241 customers in that area.
The power outage began at 5:28 p.m. when lightning hit a transformer and a tree limb fell on a power line, according to Ohio Edison officials.
Power was restored shortly after 9 p.m.
Counterfeit bill found
CAMPBELL -- Police took a counterfeit $50 bill into evidence after a woman attending a church bingo game tried to use the funny money to buy $20 worth of instant bingo cards.
A volunteer at St. Joseph Church discovered the counterfeit bill about 7:30 p.m. Thursday and questioned the woman. He told police the woman said she had gotten the bill at a store.
The police report states she then left to retrieve money to pay for her cards but never returned.
Boys charged in theft
CAMPBELL -- Police charged two boys, ages 12 and 14, with theft and receiving stolen property after a 73-year-old Tenney Avenue man brought them to the police station along with a lawn mower he said the boys stole from his home.
The man allowed the boys to cut his grass Wednesday. After the boys left, he discovered his mower missing. About 12:30 p.m. Thursday, he saw the boys pushing his lawn mower along 12th Street and confronted them.
The report says the boys apologized, returned the mower and asked the man to forget about the matter. Instead, the man escorted the boys to the police station.
The boys parents were cited for failing to fulfill their parental duties by allowing them out in public without parental supervision during school hours while the boys were suspended.

Facing DUI charge
STRUTHERS -- Joseph S. Lorubbio, 32, of Edison Street was released after posting a $200 bond at his arraignment in municipal court Friday on charges of driving under the influence, failure to control his vehicle and hit-skip.
City police arrested him just after 11 p.m. Thursday after a Ninth Street resident reported seeing a driver hit a fire hydrant with a 1994 Chrysler and drive away. Officers followed a trail of fluid from the accident scene to Lorubbio's home where they found his car, which had sustained heavy front-end damage.
Lorubbio's blood-alcohol level shortly after his arrest was 0.335 percent, police said.
Animal-cruelty charge
STRUTHERS -- Police charged Victor D. Divito, 20, of Sexton Street with cruelty to animals after a witness reported seeing him shoot his dog with a pellet gun.
According to police reports, Divito was arrested about 7:25 p.m. Thursday after telling an officer that he shot his Rottweiler puppy in the hind quarters with a BB rifle in an attempt to teach the animal not to leave the yard.
