Trumbull Co. settles ex-dispatcher's suit

WARREN -- Trumbull County commissioners have approved a settlement with a former 911 dispatcher who was fired Feb. 28, 2001.
Under the agreement, the county will pay Barbara Simpson-Stitt $56,667 and she agrees to drop her lawsuit against the county. In the lawsuit, Stitt, a dispatcher since 1994, charges she was fired because of her gender.
County officials alleged Stitt was insubordinate and neglectful of her job, her personnel file states.
In September, an administrative law judge at the State Personnel Board of Review ruled that officials did not prove the charges against her and she should not have been fired.
The county's insurance company will pay a portion of the settlement, said James Keating, the director of human resources. The exact percentage has not been worked out.
Attorneys for Stitt and the county declined to comment on the settlement.
