TOURNAMENT BASEBALL Metzinger pitches Irish to Div. III district crown

Mathews and Maplewood will play today for a Div. IV district title.
STRUTHERS -- Ursuline High pitcher John Metzinger carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning as the Irish defeated LaBrae, 5-1, to win a Division III district final Wednesday at Cene Park.
Metzinger (3-1), who struck out three and walked three, gave up a hit to Brian Howard to lead off the sixth inning. Howard scored later in the inning for LaBrae (11-8), which managed just two hits.
Josh Conkey relieved Metzinger in the sixth and pitched the rest of the way for the Irish (10-15), who advance to the Massillon regional next Friday.
Dom Cutrone added a triple for the Irish.
Division IV
STRUTHERS -- Anthony Jones threw a two-hit shutout to lead Mathews past Sebring 5-0 in a Div. IV district semifinal at Cene Park.
Jones also had two hits for Mathews (15-9), who will play Maplewood in today's district final.
Matt Weymer had two hits and Gary Jones tripled and had three RBIs for the Mustangs.
Maplewood 14, Jackson-Milton 7
STRUTHERS -- Matt Chronister went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and five RBIs as Maplewood rallied.
Jake Abbott added three hits and two RBIs for the Rockets.
For Jackson-Milton, Josh Bieda and Keith McVey each had two hits.
