MCDONALD | Council meeting

McDonald Council took this action Wednesday:
Approved by a 5-1 vote the third and final reading of an ordinance to retain Atty. William Roux as solicitor. Councilman Michael J. O'Brien cast the dissenting vote. The agreement extends Roux's contract through May 31, 2005, and grants him a 3-percent raise each of those years.
Passed by a 5-1 vote the second reading of an ordinance eliminating the tier system of pay for the finance clerk position and establishing a flat rate of $1,100 per month for the job. Councilman Jay Ryan voted against the measure.
Tabled an ordinance to combine the part-time elected positions of finance clerk and treasurer into one part-time, elected fiscal officer position. The matter has been brought before council two other times in recent months without action.
